Hollenzer Dorf Fest

At the end of the summer comes my favourite beer fest, the Hollenzer Dorf Fest. Hollenzen is a small village on the outskirts of Mayrhofen and the whole community gets involved.

It is a freindly gathering and very family based too with children catered for too. Not to say that it doesnt get raucous later on the the 'Süsser lochl' (Direct translation 'the Sweet Hole'!) with a schnappsl' or three, but they actually serve you beer in a glass and not in a plastic cup. To me that says something about how people behave.

You can catch up with everybody after the busy summer season and eat a Zillertaler Krapf'n, which are delicious! These are small pancakes filled with a potatoe and Graukäse (speciallty mouldy cheese!) then deep fried. The perfect partner for a beer.

The only downside to this fest is that it is in September and in all the years that I have lived here it has rained on at least half of them, this year was no different, but as the man says "there is no bad weather, only bad clothing!"
