The New Penken Playground

So, last weekend we went up the Penken to see the new play area that they have built. Great place to let the kids burn off some steam and to just sit about enjoying the summer for the grown-ups (who wants to go for a hike on a day like this anyway!) Well worth a visist if you are going up, it's just at the top of the Combi-bahn along with some very cool looking electric bikes and some 'Zorb' ball on a lake. I spoke to one of the chaps up there and apparently there is a lot more planned for next year, so watch this space (not literally, but keep following the blog!).

The Last Days of the Season

Well the winter season finished yesterday, and as luck would have it I managed to get the week off so that I could enjoy this big Alpine playground that I live in. I was hoping for more of the weather that we had been enduring over the last few weeks (hot and sunny) so that I could go up the Glacier at Hintertux. Fortunately it was better than that, it dumped with snow all week, and no there are very few pictures of that as I was having way too much fun in the power!

However, the weather did change on the Friday, and I managed to get up to Hintertux for a day of blasting down near deserted motorway pistes with an amazing view of the Alps.

The Glacier is open 365 days a year and yes, I have been skiiing in August before but I dont recommend it unless you like ice skating on the mountain. Spring is really where it comes into its own with a drpo of fresh snow, and a clear sky, it is really what skiing is about.

PS. dont go there in January unless you like being cold, I have been there in -30 degrees before without the windchill!

Cloudy Mountains

Sunday comes round again and we went up the mountain even though it was raining in the village. It started off with a blizzard and near total whiteout but slowly the clouds started to clear and we had a wonderful lunch with some amazing views up at the Gschosswandhaus.

Monochrome Oktober Day 31

Each year I dedicate the month of Oktober (German Spelling, in case you were wondering) to the beautiful art of Black & White photography. Each day I will be posting a new Black & white image

I have a passion for this style of photograph, as it makes you concentrate more on the subject and really brings out the emotion of the image.

In the post processing phase, it is more than just removing the colour out of a picture but finding the right combination of tones and shades of grey that work within an image. With applications such as Photoshop you can change these mixtures to a great degree to give you more or less of those tones.

You can experiment with your photos as I am sure that your smartphone will have an editing section in it (both the iPhone Camera App and the Facebook App do this) and play around with the different settings.

Share your images with everyone by posting them to my facebook page

Don't forget that you can subscribe below to receive all the images from this months collection, plus a couple of bonus images, in high resolution.
