Ski Race Day

As the winter draws to a close I can finally get some time to post some shots from the slopes.

The other week I was contacted to shoot a ski race for a group from the UK in what was for most of them their first ever ski race. I was impressed with how well they all did as I was forced to think back to when I was a beginner (yes, it was that long ago!) and how it was those first few days on skis, such a strange feeling.

They were a fun group and it was a pleasure to photograph them and give them some mementos of their holiday.

Winter walk in the woods

I was looking back over some photos from this winter and I found a folder with a few pictures that I had somehow forgotten to process! (not quite sure how that happened with my quiet and relaxing life in the mountains!) So a couple of early morning post sessions and here is our winter walk in the woods as well as the Kindergarten race day.

Winter Begins

OK I had some time off, and during that time the winter season kicked off, Well that was lucky wasn't it!, Oh and it snowed too!!! Got some nice shots of the mountains in all their glory and had some pretty decent skiing too. All captured on an iPhone 6s with post done in Adobe Lightoroom Mobile and CC and some experimentation with a new thing or 2 that I learned in Photoshop CC. Tell me what you think in the comments below.

The Last Days of the Season

Well the winter season finished yesterday, and as luck would have it I managed to get the week off so that I could enjoy this big Alpine playground that I live in. I was hoping for more of the weather that we had been enduring over the last few weeks (hot and sunny) so that I could go up the Glacier at Hintertux. Fortunately it was better than that, it dumped with snow all week, and no there are very few pictures of that as I was having way too much fun in the power!

However, the weather did change on the Friday, and I managed to get up to Hintertux for a day of blasting down near deserted motorway pistes with an amazing view of the Alps.

The Glacier is open 365 days a year and yes, I have been skiiing in August before but I dont recommend it unless you like ice skating on the mountain. Spring is really where it comes into its own with a drpo of fresh snow, and a clear sky, it is really what skiing is about.

PS. dont go there in January unless you like being cold, I have been there in -30 degrees before without the windchill!

Family Skiday

Yes I know that I haven't posted for a while, but life has been busy (as it always is) here in the Zillertal, Anyhow I thought that I would share with you a couple of photos that I took this weekend at the Ski Hoch Zillertal Area in Kaltenbach. A great resort and some fantastic conditions for February. I shall endeavor to keep the posts coming a little more regularly in the future!

Monochrome Oktober Day 3

Each year I dedicate the month of Oktober (German Spelling, in case you were wondering) to the beautiful art of Black & White photography. Each day I will be posting a new Black & white image

I have a passion for this style of photograph, as it makes you concentrate more on the subject and really brings out the emotion of the image.

In the post processing phase, it is more than just removing the colour out of a picture but finding the right combination of tones and shades of grey that work within an image. With applications such as Photoshop you can change these mixtures to a great degree to give you more or less of those tones.

You can experiment with your photos as I am sure that your smartphone will have an editing section in it (both the iPhone Camera App and the Facebook App do this) and play around with the different settings.

Share your images with everyone by posting them to my facebook page
