Als ich geheiratet habe, hatten wir die Wahl, eine große Familienhochzeit mit vielen Freunden oder wir fliegen nach Las Vegas und heiraten nur wir zwei und Elvis! Auf dem Papier kosten sie tatsächlich dasselbe, also lag es an dem, was wir wollten. Wir haben uns für ersteres entschieden, weil wir mit allen feiern wollten, aber es war eine sehr knappe Entscheidung (sorry Elvis!).

Ich sage nicht, dass eines besser ist als das andere, da wir alle unterschiedliche Dinge wollen und schätzen, aber ich habe einen wachsenden Trend bei Paaren festgestellt, die alleine durchbrennen oder eine kleine intime Hochzeit mit nur ein paar engen Freunden haben wollen .

Als Hochzeitsfotograf stellt dies eine besondere Herausforderung für mich dar. Wenn Sie eine Zeremonie mit etwa 30 Gästen fotografieren, müssen Sie viele Personen fotografieren, und Sie können die Atmosphäre der Zeremonie etwas schneller einfangen, da Sie sich auf mehr Personen konzentrieren müssen. Dies hat auch den umgekehrten Effekt, da Sie dann viele Leute haben, die nach diesen magischen Momenten Ausschau halten. Dem kann entgegengewirkt werden, indem ein zweiter Fotograf eingesetzt wird, wenn es im Budget liegt. Mehr Kameras erzeugen definitiv mehr Bilder für den Kunden.

Ich schweife jedoch ab und komme zurück zum Thema kleine Hochzeiten im Elopement-Stil, die (besonders in diesen sich ändernden Zeiten) immer beliebter werden. Die Herausforderung ist da und ich liebe Herausforderungen, da sie meine Fähigkeiten und meine Kreativität fördern. So fotografieren Sie auf interessante Weise nur 2 Personen und das Standesamt in einem Raum. Außerdem sind sie beschäftigt und können nicht gestört, gestellt oder positioniert werden.

Kleine Hochzeit im Regionalmuseum in Zell am Ziller

Persönlich übe ich dafür wie bei den meisten Fotografieübungen, ja, ich benutze meine Kinder! Ich bekomme sie, wenn sie etwas tun, das ihre Aufmerksamkeit erfordert, vielleicht mit Spielzeug spielen oder zeichnen oder sogar ihre Hausaufgaben machen. Ich sage ihnen, dass sie mich ignorieren sollen (was ihnen nicht schwer fällt!) und dann gehe ich herum und suche nach interessanten Blickwinkeln und Kompositionen, während ich gleichzeitig versuche, sie nicht zu stören.

Das setze ich bei Hochzeiten wie dieser von Sabine & Oliver um. Die Hochzeit fand im Zillertaler Heimatmuseum in Zell am Ziller statt. Die Herausforderung bestand hier nicht so sehr darin, an einem natürlich erstaunlichen Ort mit 2 wunderschönen Menschen erstaunliche Bilder zu erstellen, sondern nicht auf den sehr alten und quietschenden Dielen zu stehen.

Der Raum ist groß genug, um sich zu bewegen und unterschiedliche Blickwinkel einzunehmen (manchmal ist es in kleineren Räumen schwieriger!)

Wenn Sie auf die Bilder zurückblicken und sehen, dass die verschiedenen Blickwinkel in Kombination mit den Emotionen von nur 2 Personen uns eine große Vielfalt an Fotos bescheren. Bei diesem speziellen Shooting hatten wir ungefähr 100 Bilder zur Auswahl und während der Postproduktionsphase haben wir es auf ungefähr 30 endgültige Halter eingegrenzt, nur die Besten der Besten.

Fügen Sie dazu die Fotos von der Porträtsitzung hinzu, die wir auf dem Gelände des Museums gemacht haben, und einen flüchtigen Ausflug auf den Berg, bevor ein Sturm hereinbrach, und wir haben eine gute Auswahl an Fotos für ein Hochzeitsfotoalbum und einige Testamentskunst.

Alles von einer Hochzeit für nur 2 Personen.

Während Sie also denken, dass Sie sich die große Hochzeit vielleicht nicht leisten können oder aus welchen Gründen auch immer nicht all diese Leute zu dieser Zeit zusammenbringen können, denken Sie einfach daran, dass die 2 wichtigsten Personen immer da sein werden.

Natürlich gibt es immer die großen Hochzeiten, aber das ist für einen anderen Tag......

Elopement Wedding Photography, How small can your wedding be?

When I got married, we had a choice, a large family wedding with lots of friends or fly to Las Vegas and get married just the 2 of us and Elvis! On paper they actually cost the same, so it was down to what we wanted. We went with the former as we wanted to celebrate with everyone but it was a very close decision (sorry Elvis!).

I am not saying that either is better than the other, as we all want and appreciate different things, but I have found a growing trend among couples who want to elope on their own or have a small intimate wedding with just a couple of close friends.

As a wedding photographer this presents a unique challenge for me. When you are shooting a ceremony with 30 or so guests you have lots of people to photograph and you can capture the ambiance of the ceremony somewhat faster as you have more people to focus on. This also has the reverse effect as you then have lots of people to keep an eye on looking for those magic moments. This can be countered by utilising a second photographer if it is in the budget. More cameras will definitely generate more images for the client.

However, I am digressing, getting back to the topic of small elopement style weddings, that are (especially in these changing times) becoming more popular. The Challenge is there and i do love a challenge, as it pushes my abilities and creativity. How to photograph just 2 people and the Standesamt in an interesting way, in one room. Also they are preoccupied and cannot be disturbed, posed or positioned.

Personally, I practice for this as I do with most photography practice, yes I use my kids! I get them when they are doing something that requires their attention, maybe playing with toys or drawing or even doing their homework. I tell them to ignore me (which is not hard for them to do!) and I then go around looking for interesting angles and compositions, while at the same time trying not to disturb them.

I put this into practice with weddings such as this one from Sabine & Oliver. The wedding took place at the Zillertaler Heimatmuseum in Zell am Ziller. The challenge here was not so much to create amazing images in what is a naturally amazing place with 2 beautiful people, but not to stand on the very old and squeaky floorboards.

The room is large enough to move around and get differing angles in (sometimes, in smaller spaces, it is more challenging!)

When you look back at the images and see that the different angles combined with the emotions of just 2 people gives us a wide variety of photos. in this particular shoot we had over 100 images to choose from and during the post production stage we narrowed it down to about 30 final keepers, just the the best of the best.

Add to this the photos from the portrait session that we did in the grounds of the museum and a fleeting trip up the mountain before a storm came in, and we have a good selection of photos for a wedding photo album and some will art.

All from a wedding for just 2 people.

So while you are thinking that you maybe cant afford the big wedding or you cant get all those people together at that time for whatever the reason, just remember that the 2 most important people are always going to be there.

Of course there are always the big weddings but that is for another day......
